Episode one the Phantom Menace is the first film in the Star Wars Saga. This was chosen not to be made in 1977 and instead Episode Four, A New Hope was made. In later years episodes five and six were made. But Episode one had to wait untill 1999 before it would be seen.

Episode one. Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi are called on to protect Naboo from the Nimoudian Federation and the evil Sith Lords, Darth Sidious and Darth Maul, representatives of the dark side of the Force. They plan to overthrow Senate Chancellor Valorum and replace him with the treacherous Palpatine. They take Naboo's capital the city of Theed, but before they can get a treaty signed by Queen Amidala of Naboo she escapes with the help of Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. They escape to the planet Tatooine. Were Anakin Skywalker, a nine year old slave boy from the planet help them to repair they ship and get back to the Senate. Anakin Skywalker  befriends the Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi and goes with them and becomes an apprentice in the ways of the force. The film ends with an epic battle between the Nimoudians and the jedi.

The Phantom Menace sows the seeds for the next two parts in the Star Wars saga. Anakin becomes one of the greatest Jedi Knights, He falls in love with and marries Padme, now Queen Amidala and they have two children Luke and Leia. Anakin also betrays and destroys the jedi and turns to the dark side of the force. The new trilogy (Episodes I, II, III) ends where the old one began.
